Chief Technology Officer (CTO)

Job Summary

The Chief Technology Officer (CTO) is responsible for setting the technical vision, aligning it with Corporate initiatives, and managing the technology infrastructure. Moreover, the CTO is responsible for the technology systems, processes, design, development, or acquisition of resources to satisfy the needs of internal and external customers and partners to enhance business effectiveness.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serve on the executive leadership team (ELT) to
    • Define and implement the company’s overall technology strategy to support business objectives and set clear priorities; and
    • Align technology goals across organizations and departments and work closely to define, prioritize, roadmap, and deliver new products and enhancements; and
    • Establish goals for IT management and production systems, balancing the long-term and immediate needs; and
    • Lead the digital transformation initiatives using an agile approach.
  • Develop and manage the department’s annual and quarterly budgets.
  • Develop strategic plans and technology architecture, set timelines for evaluation, development, and deployment of all technical, web, and mobile services ensuring technology standards and best practices are met.
    • As the ultimate product manager, synthesize requirements and constraints to deliver solutions.
  • Oversee data security, management, and governance.
    • Facilitate the development and implementation of disaster recovery and IT security failure plans.
  • Manage strategic vendor and technology partner relationships and optimize assets to satisfy internal financial targets.
    • Make infrastructure decisions, ensuring technical excellence, versatility, safety and soundness, resiliency, and scalability in the architecting and engineering of product solutions, and managing all technical delivery.
  • Present reports on the company’s technology status, goals, and progress.
  • Identify what technologies can improve the company’s products and services using best practices.
  • Create and oversee high-level KPIs for the IT department.
  • Assist in recruiting, onboarding, and training IT professionals.

Qualifications / Skills

  • Strong department leader with skills in strategic planning, goal setting, process development, budgeting, and creating opportunities for professional development within technology teams.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and strategic thinking abilities with a problem-solving aptitude.
  • Solid understanding of broad technology trends and the ability to align innovation with business goals.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to convey technical topics in easy-to-understand business terms and work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and external partners.
  • Strategic smarts, including the ability to identify new opportunities, drive clarity, create focus, and make tough decisions in complex and dynamic contexts.
  • Ability to track and identify new technologies to solve complex business issues.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Previous experience as a CTO, Chief Information Officer (CIO, or similar leadership role).
  • Senior management experience (15-20 Years)
  • Advanced degree, MBA preferred
  • Broad knowledge of software engineering: languages, frameworks, techniques, and industry trends.
  • Experience leading complex, major changes and initiatives; demonstrated skills in project and change management on an organizational and interpersonal level; experience with integrating teams across multiple business units and managing a geographically dispersed workforce.
  • Experience designing and managing a practical and effective IT governance framework across the spectrum of IT service delivery.
  • Excellent leadership, team building, management, and mentoring skills
